A family reunited
Anglicare's Disability and Aged Care Support Service is delighted to have helped a family reunite.
Recently Anglicare was approached by a family who had re-located to Tasmania from Victoria for health reasons to ask if we could offer any accommodation to their daughter, who has multiple disabilities and complex support needs.
Their daughter was still living in Victoria; they were missing her terribly and had been trying to find a way to relocate her to Tasmania.
Anglicare's Accommodation and Disability Support Manager, Mel Harback said, 'When the family approached Anglicare it seemed that no one was able to help.'
Our Disability Support and Aged Care Services team entered into a relationship with Disability Services in Victoria to move their daughter to Tasmania and reunite the family.
The Motor Accidents Insurance Board (MAIB) approved short term accommodation (6 months) for their daughter at Caylea, one of Anglicare's supported accommodation sites they fund.
'We are currently working with Anglicare's ACCESS program to find permanent accommodation,' said Ms. Harback.
Disability Services Victoria are funding support through an Individual Support Programme (ISP) and Disability Services Tasmania are administering the ISP.
The family has expressed heartfelt thanks to Anglicare for enabling their daughter to relocate to Tasmania, making the transition as smooth as possible and for the ongoing support the family receives.
Anglicare would like to thank MAIB, Disability Services Victoria and Disability Services Tasmania for helping us to make this reunion possible.
