Rwandan Coffee Club

As seen on the ABCTV 7.30 report Monday 17 December 2007

A Rwandan Refugee Support Group (RRSG) in the parish of Channel/Cygnet is assisting a small community of Rwandan genocide survivors in the state to build a sustainable community about them.

The group operates the Rwandan Coffee Club that sells coffee and tea to raise funds to provide life's necessities and items that can improve people's ability to earn incomes. By purchasing products through the Club you are changing the lives of genocide survivors in Rwanda: widows, often HIV positive or further progressed, orphans who missed education.

The group will market excellent quality Rwandan coffee and tea when it is practical to purchase container loads. Meanwhile they supply premium coffees and teas from other developing nations, Fair Trade or Rainforest Alliance where possible.

Rwandan Coffee Club Coffee is available from Jim's Oasis on Davey Street, City Organics on Criterion Street in Hobart and Farah's Supermarket Cygnet.

They are also preparing a range of coffee lines with Woolworths in the near future. Rwandan Coffee Club will be in Tasmanian stores first but extending through to the mainland as we gear up to handle the quantity.

The Parish of Channel/Cygnet's Rwandan Refugee Support Group started the Rwandan Coffee Club in 2006. Contact Revd John Middleton on 6295 1344 also see the website.
