Winning blood
The Hutchins School have been announced joint winners of the inaugural Australian Red Cross Winter Blood Challenge for a large organisation.
It was further announced as the trophy and certificate was presented to some of the boys who contributed to the cause, that Hutchins was not only joint Tasmanian winners but also gained fourth place Australia-wide in their category. This is a mammoth effort for our young generation.
Our boys were very proud to learn of their joint win but quick to add that pride was felt for each week students gave blood to the cause, knowing it would help support a life somewhere.
Father John Goodwin, who guides and encourages the boys of Hutchins in their many community projects stated, ìOur aim was to take four students each week, the youngest students being only 16 and showing great courage. Of course liking the milkshakes helped tremendously.î
To all those students who contributed, to Father John for his encouragement and support of our boys, to the supporting parents and staff who assisted and to Mrs Beth Stanton who constantly shuttled groups of students to the Blood Band ñ thank you all and well done!
