The movie Oklahoma is a tonic and it's coming to the State Theatre in Hobart.
Here's some facts about the movie, that you may not know.
- It was based on the book Green Grow the Lilies.
- It was not shot in Oklahoma, but in Arizona. The sight of all the oil rigs in Oklahoma was considered too off-putting.
- It was out of season for corn, so the University of Arizona was called in to develop some special corn plants.
- Paul Newman and James Dean were considered for the role eventually played by Gordon McRae.
- It cost $6.8 million to produce and took 107 days to shoot.
- Nominated for three Academy Awards, it won two.
