GFS Life Membership awarded after 'a little while'
On 3 February GFS Tasmania awarded life membership to Beryl Pridham for her outstanding contribution to the society in both branch and executive level.
Beryl's involvement started when one of her daughters told the retiring leaders at St David's, Cooee her mum would take over. A little while later the rector's wife visited and said how wonderful that she was going to take GFS…
30+ years later Beryl was still leading the group after her initial 'little while'. Her involvement also included roles on GFS executive, Link (newsletter) editor and compiler, NW representative, and publicity.
Julie Smith, GFS Tasmania Chairperson, paid homage to Beryl and her unselfish commitment to GFS, highlighting the fact that some of the young girls in the branch had brought their daughters back. Obviously some seeds had been sown that these parents wanted to see passed onto their own daughters.
Beryl gave thanks to God and to all those who helped along the way, especially to Shirley Rayner as she provided much need information and initial encouragement, Also the great friendships that had been forged over the years. Beryl also thanked her husband, Albie, who was always there for support, especially in matters involving construction. She said that you get more out of GFS than you put in. We all wish her the best in her new 'home' in Launceston.
Lots of photos, reminiscing and chatter ensued over a wonderful afternoon tea with the help of the caterers at St John's, Launceston - thank you Wendy and Val.
