At CMS Summerview Conference Rose Dowsett gave a breath-taking insight into God's work across the globe.
Life lessons shared
We praise and thank God that this year's Summerview saw attendances up by 50% from last year. In spite of the larger attendances the Tasmania Summerview has kept its 'family feel' and warm Tassie friendliness.
More than 300 people, including several from interstate, participated in the CMS annual Bible teaching and missions conference at Port Sorell in early January to be nurtured and encouraged by speakers and missionaries from across the globe.
Canadian chemist Don Carson, prolific Christian writer and Professor of New Testament at a Chicago college, drew out life lessons from the zeal, commitment and sad ending of the reformer Nehemiah in a deeply inspiring series entitled The Triumph & Failure of Reformation.
Glaswegian Bible College lecturer, writer and former SE Asian missionary Rose Dowsett's Mission in a Changing World was a breath-taking series full of insight into God's work across the globe.
Complementing these talks were presentations from the Shead family, recently returned from serving the Slovene church, and the Fletcher family, on furlough from student Christian work in Mexico City.
Special honour was paid to Lance and Gwen Tremlett, retiring after a combined 90 years of service with CMS in Northern Territory, which culminated in the publishing last year of the Kriol Baibul. There were updates from the Cannells, a pictorial tour of the Near East with Tim Bunge and more memorable music from Odd Sox.
What a blessing it was to have the multi-talented, former CMS-missionary Lake family with us!
Andrew's introductory and concluding talks, State Secretary Pam's displays and the creative input from the offspring, most notably a giant jigsaw of the world showing where CMS personnel are working, all contributed to a memorable conference.
The all-age conference had parallel programs for Primary school-aged and Secondary school-aged young people as well as a crèche. Camp Banksia, the former Education Department site, again proved a good compromise between comfort and cost, and the Summer View Organising Committee had worked hard on every element of the four-day program to maximise the benefit, enjoyment and fellowship.
If there was a downside, it was that some intending delegates missed out, after leaving it too late to book in. Next year's conference is already in the planning stage, and early registration is recommended.
Details can be obtained at any stage from Russell Morton, Chair of the Organising Committee, on 03 6220 2020.
