The weekend that changed the world

Weekends are important says Bishop John.
Just ask any Australian!
One weekend in Jerusalem changed the world. Amidst the chaos of cruel and callous injustice, the cross of human death and suffering was unknowingly being transformed into a symbol of life and love.
An empty tomb was to demonstrate Eternal Truth.
Dejected disciples become fearless followers.
Sorrow and sadness become joy and worship.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is the 'Yes' of God to his life and teaching:
- Jesus giving his life as a ransom for many. Yes! (Mark 10:45, 1 Peter 3:18).
- Jesus' Last Supper as his body and blood being poured out for the forgiveness of sins. Yes! (Matthew 26:28)
- Jesus drinking the cup of God's wrath. Yes! (Mark 14:36)
- Jesus' life of love, death and resurrection as the call to come and follow him. Yes! ( Matthew 28:16-20)
- Jesus the way and the truth and the life. Yes! (John 14:1-6)
- Jesus the bread of life, light of the world, the gate to life, the good shepherd, resurrection and life, the true vine. Yes! (John 6:35, 8:12,10:9, 10:11, 11:25, 15:11)
The resurrection shouts for response. What do we say? How do we respond?
- I respond by thanking God for his love as revealed in Jesus Christ.
- I respond by asking God for forgiveness of my sin in rejecting God.
- I respond by believing Jesus' life and ministry as the Bible describes.
- I respond joyfully, in party-mode, at the news of the resurrection.
What does this weekend in Jerusalem mean?
- Jesus is alive.
- Death is not the end.
- Jesus is the winner!
- Forgiveness is possible.
- Transformation is possible.
- Christ walks with us in suffering.
- Every person has value and dignity.
I finish with a resurrection conversation by John Masefield,
'Do you think he is dead?'
'No, I don't.'
'Then where is he?'
'Let loose in the world.'
Your brother in Christ's baptismal death and resurrection joy.
It's party time. Enjoy!
