A very special occasion

Priest conducting wedding of older couple

Reminder of the community of faith

In the old days it used to be said that church fellowship groups were places where many individuals met their life-partner. Well, the same cannot quite be said for Rector's Warden, Jennie Norrish and life-time parishioner, Kevin Mitchell ... but almost!

On Sunday 4 May 2008 the parish family, together with family of Jennie and Kevin came together, with great excitement, to celebrate their marriage - within the normal Sunday morning Eucharist.

It was a wonderful expression of the sacramental presence of God's love for his people.

The marriage was celebrated by the rector, the Revd Canon David O'Neill. The Revd Canon Robert Legg, whose early years were spent as a member of the parish and has known the Mitchell family for many years, took part, as did Bishop Phillip Newell.

For all of us, we were reminded of the vital importance of the community of faith. We not only break bread together but we share each other's joys and sorrows. We value each occasion that reminds us that 'we are the body of Christ.'
