God's houses
Did you know
...that St Andrew's Church, Carrick, started out life as a school house? Or that St George's in Sorell has been rebuilt twice since 1825?
These two churches, and more from around Australia, are featured in the 2009 Anglican Church Calendar.
From wooden sheds with no power, vast cathedrals, a quiet sea-side church, to the busy suburban parish centre: the Calendar provides an snapshot of the diversity of Anglican churches across the country.
The photographer, Robin Page, is a retired RAAF pilot who travels widely each year. His journeys take him to many places, but even tiny rural outposts have their Anglican churches, and it is these that catch the lens of his camera. Usually he comes across the churches by chance; occasionally he is able to photograph a church by prior arrangement.
Parish fundraiser
From its beginnings in 1993 as a fundraising tool for the Anglican Retreat House in Melbourne and the mission of St Augustine's Parish in Mentone, the project has grown and now the full-colour calendar can be found on walls throughout Australia and around the world.
Many parishes order calendars in bulk at a reduced rate and use them as a fundraiser for their own ministries.
Liturgical colours, saints' days and holidays and selected Scriptures make it a great gift as well as a useful planner. A partnership with AngliCORD also sees funds from calendar sales go to support its work with thousands of people throughout the world.
To order your personal copy of the Anglican Church Calendar, use the order form inside the print edition of Tasmanian Anglican; or order through your parish and support your local ministry.
