On Sunday 31 August we remembered all those who have suffered from cancer.

St John's was decorated with daffodils in pots and vases, and a Paschal Candle was placed at the front of the church in a special tray.

At the commencement of the service the Revd Margaret Lock lit and blessed the Paschal Candle. The congregation were invited to light a votive candle during Communion and pray for someone special they know who had suffered from cancer.

Sue Sanderson lead the prayers in which she gave thanks for the lives of those loved ones who have died, prayed for those who are undergoing treatment and rejoiced with those who have been healed. She also prayed for people involved in treating patients and doing research to find cures.

During Communion a small choral group sang 'Jesus, keep me near the cross'.

After Communion when everyone had returned to their seats there was an amazing feeling of peace in the church and an assurance that the Lord was near and listening to our prayers.

For me it was a very moving service which I will remember for a long time.

Thank you to the Revd Margaret Lock and to Canon David and his wife for providing the flowers and making the service possible.
