Triabunna School breakfast program

The new Breakfast Program got off to a good start on the first day of term in September for the secondary students, with the junior school starting on the Tuesday.

Children and teachers were very enthusiastic - a learning experience for all!

The Breakfast Program has come about after the Revd Ross Ellwood from the Anglican Parish of Buckland heard that many of the children did not have breakfast before school. School Principal Mrs Annette Parker felt that this was the cause of some of the behavioural problems within the school.

The introduction of the program at Triabunna District High School is a big step by the Parish of Buckland in the community and has been made possible through funding from Anglicare, the Rotary Club, the Anglican Parish of Buckland, with bread provided free by The Bakehouse in Triabunna.

Breakfast is provided at the school every morning on a rota system, with each child having breakfast once a week. This consists of cereal, milk, toast, jam or vegemite. The teachers have fully embraced the program; it is widely acknowledged that a good healthy breakfast aids learning and concentration. The Parish of Buckland provides a 'helper' as we try to provide not only a healthy breakfast but also the teaching of the skills to get breakfast for themselves.

The Kinders and Preps had their breakfast together and fully enjoyed the experience of making toast and spreading the butter and jam, and washing up afterwards. They were all so polite and friendly and obviously having a great time!
It is envisaged that this program can continue, but for this to happen it will need more community groups to help with funding.
