Jesus’ birthday party

Local church and school join in celebrating

Just before Christmas there was a memorable evening service at St Mary’s Anglican Church, Triabunna, to celebrate the ‘birthday’ of Jesus.

This was presented together with the Triabunna District School and featured the school choir and the inspired singing of Kory Parker. The church was packed to capacity, with around 220 parents and children inside and about 40 people outside under the marquee.

The service told of Jesus’ birth in music, word, and in acting the parts.

The school choir, directed by Principal, Mrs Annette Parker, sang most of the favourite carols in such an enthusiastic way and it was noted that many of the children were not using their song sheets all of the time, but knew the words.

A lot of effort had obviously been put into the costumes by the parents. Kory’s singing was a joy to hear and one of his solos was particularly moving.

The highlight of the evening had to be the presence in church of the three donkeys, Jake, Louise and Bonnie, who munched away on their hay throughout the service.

It was lovely to see ‘Mary’ arrive at the stable indeed on a donkey. We sincerely thank Mrs Gayelene Harrower and her helpers, Jeanne and Arthur, for bringing the Donkey Ministry to us. They were also tireless in their efforts to give every child (and a few adults) a ride afterwards.

‘Jesus’ Birthday Party’ was celebrated afterwards. Many people contributed the food, not only from the church community, but also Rotary and other community members.

It was a wonderful evening, and especially so to see our community celebrating together a very special occasion.
