Christmas Live in the City
St David's Cathedral
St David’s members have just completed a wonderfully happy, and busy month of Christmas and New Year activities.
They began on Sunday 14 December when the ecumenical outreach, Christmas Live in the City was launched in the Close with the setting-up of six large Christmas story tableaux boards, beautifully designed and painted by school students from Anglican and Catholic schools.
For the next ten days, every afternoon, shoppers and business people of our city were able to listen to and take part in carol singing with several choirs whilst enjoying sausage sizzles and drinks. A special treat for adults and children alike over the last four days to Christmas Eve was the addition of a live manger scene with donkeys, sheep, a ferret and volunteers dressed as nativity characters.
Many people delighted in this colourful presentation of the real message of Christmas – Grace to you and Peace.
That message was again proclaimed beautifully in the variety of the Cathedral’s five Christmas services …Children’s Story Time, Nine Lessons & Carols, Midnight, Morning Communion and Family Eucharist. 1200 people – congregation and visitors – attended these services sharing in celebration always with glorious music from our gifted choir.
In the midst of this special activity, we launched our Christmas/New Year Mission Appeal to raise $1500 to build a well for the desperately poor people of Mean Chey, Cambodia.
Over the four weeks from launch on Sunday 14 December, St David’s people responded superbly so that by Sunday 11 January, there was, not just $1500 for ONE well, but a total of …
$4510 – sufficient to build THREE wells serving 18 families, about 300 people.
