Two passionate sailors, Josh Phillips and Adrian Beswick, are a step closer to conquering a challenge of a lifetime. They will attempt a record-breaking crossing of Bass Strait in order to help the endangered Tasmanian Devil.
Their 14-foot lightweight skiff has received a lot of work in the past few weeks, including sponsorship signage, a full re-fit of running gear, new wings and a workout in the B14 world championships.
‘To make the trip a success, picking the right gap in the weather is now what it’s all going to boil down too.’
Mr Phillips said. ‘We’re looking forward to some trial runs next week in Bass Strait to see how the boat handles in the open ocean.’
Both Adrian and Josh attend Wellspring Church in Hobart and invite the whole church community to get behind them in prayer.
The crossing will take place in early March, depending on weather conditions, and is hoped to be completed in around eight hours. An TV ad campaign will encourage Tasmanians to get behind the cause.
The strait4devils team still has a lot of work ahead, but things are now well and truly on track for success.
