Barnabas column - Stories of Encouragement
Thank you for your support!
Here Bishop John shares a letter of thanks from Bishop Philip Freier, Archbishop of Melbourne, who writes,
I was heartened to receive your letter of 6 March and the enclosed donation to the bushfire recovery programs of the Province of Victoria.
At times such as these one is touched by the generosity of those who want to contribute to the work of healing and restoring in the lives of the victims. The people of the Diocese of Tasmania have been exceedingly generous in raising [more than] $22 500 for our Appeal.
I am determined that the Anglican church will continue its support for those in the affected areas over the long term.
Our biggest need is for extra support for ministry on the ground, both now and ahead through the long period of recovery.
Our experience from the 1983 bushfires has shown that the rebuilding of churches, both buildings and people, can be integrated into community rebuilding for the benefit of all. Your support in these efforts is greatly appreciated.
Please convey our thanks to the Diocese of Tasmania.
Philip Melbourne
