Lunch proceeds with great result

Members of the Anglican Men's Society met at Longford on 17 February for a State Council Meeting

A major agenda item was sending financial assistance to the Bishop of Gippsland (the Rt Reverend John McIntyre) for aid to bush fire victims.

The Executive of the National Council of AMS voted to donate $1 000 to the Bishop for use as he saw need immediately after the Saturday of the fires. State Council discussed this donation and unanimously voted to try to match it from members in Tasmania.

At the lunch following the meeting $255 was raised: $120 as a result of the generosity of the Christ Church, Longford Guild – they gave back this amount which was the lunch proceeds!

The Longford Branch raided the late Neville Chisholm's 'elephant', an ornate money box into which casual monies are dropped at Branch meetings, and that yielded another $135!

Holy Trinity, Launceston at its February meeting voted another $200. Moonah men found $200 and from other sources AMS Tasmania quickly had $800.

Longford sealed the deal with another $200 – $1 000 raised just like that and we had great pleasure in sending that to Bishop McIntyre.

And, in ongoing mission work Branches and the State Council are continuing to contribute towards the National AMS project supporting 'Hearts for Africa'. Well over $1 000 has been donated in recent months.

The Anglican Men's Society seeks to give social and spiritual support to men of the Diocese and in joining with them to strengthen the church's work amongst men.
