Vale Bill Warburton
The Revd Bill Warburton died in Geraldton WA on 2 February at the age of 81. Throughout his 57 years of ordained ministry he touched the lives of many people both within and outside the Anglican Church.
Born in Melbourne in 1927, Bill first worked as an electrician for the tramways.
After study at Ridley he was priested in Tasmania in 1953 and served in Launceston, Ulverstone, in Tarraleah as a BCA Missioner, Scottsdale, Hobart, Franklin and Burnie, including a term as Director of the former Department of Mission.
He became a Canon before moving to South Australia and was then called to Western Australia in 1988 where he was Rector of several parishes, later becoming Dean of Geraldton.
Bill was always a 'people person' and had a great love of the Lord which he was always ready to share with others. He was also well-known for his hymn singing and thoughtful prayers.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer and five adult children.
The Diocese of North West Australia has launched the Bill Warburton Memorial Fund. Gifts are invited for a fund which will be used to train ministers for service in the North West of WA.
