Ruffling feathers

One of CMS’s workers in the Middle East shares exciting (and alarming) news of how the truth of the cross is being spread …

The new women’s sitcom produced by my media company is ruffling feathers. An Islamic newspaper ran an article accusing the company of being a tool of the Crusaders (Christians), Zionists and Western countries. Yet at the same time, it reinforced the impact of using media to draw Arab women to Jesus.

The writer acknowledged that the series 'touches the very fabric of [her] soul' and addresses the primary concerns of Muslim women. She warns that a TV drama series is as powerful as military weapons, because it can change attitudes and behaviours.

Our local workers are both encouraged and concerned by the article. On the one hand, it affirms that our approach does affect women powerfully; they realise the program comes from a Christian world view. Yet the article mentions the full names of our director and board members, and accuses them of using foreign funds to produce the series as a tool for Christian evangelism, and promoting Western interests.

Because our NGO is registered as a secular organisation, this accusation could cause trouble with security agencies and the government ministry that oversees NGOs.

Please pray for our NGO’s future, and that this article will help, not hamper, the spread of the gospel in our region.
