Not just a campsite
Once again Mission Afloat Tasmania was pleased to represent the Anglican Church at the 2009 Australian Wooden Boat Festival held in Hobart over the long weekend of February 6-9.
We brought two of our longboats, Discovery II and Abel Tasman, up from Montgomery Park, Coningham, and over the three days of operation gave free boat trips around Constitution Dock and King’s Pier Marina to an estimated 900 people (and one dog)!
The event was a great success, and Mission Afloat and the church in general got exposure not only to the thousands of visitors to the Festival but extensive media coverage in the press and on television.
Thanks are due to all the volunteers, and especially to Betty Broadley and Neale and Shirley Cracknell who put in many hours before the event making nearly 500 bandannas and 350 tugboat kits. We are looking forward to doing it all again in 2011, but meanwhile please consider if we can assist with Kingdom-building ventures in your area – boating, crafts, games...
Other recent events that we have participated in include the Clarence Seafarers’ Festival, The Derwent Valley Autumn Festival and Agfest. We’re not just a campsite, we’re a Mission; we love getting out among the people. Mission Afloat is an Anglican Diocesan resource – please use us!
