six people look at chaplain's licence certificate

AMS Chaplain, the Revd Jo Pyecroft with Longford AMS members.

But she’s a woman!

Three years ago, when the Anglican Men’s Society requested Bishop John to appoint a new Chaplain to the Society he asked,

‘Whom shall I send?’

And the Longford Branch said, ‘Send Jo!’

Bishop John said, ‘But she’s a woman!’

And we replied in true Dibleian style, ‘Oh, you noticed’! Then suggested that in Christ there is ' "no Jew or Greek…no male or female”! ’ and Jo Pyecroft was the best priest for the job!

The theology impressed Bishop John and he appointed the Revd Josephine Margaret Pyecroft to be Chaplain to the AMS in Tasmania.

‘Jo’ has been a wonderful counsellor for the AMS. Her deep committment to the Gospel and her pastoral sensitivity has greatly endeared her to all AMS members…and on the mainland too, after she attended the National Conference in Hobart in 2007.

We requested Bishop John to renew her appointment from 2009 until 2012 and AMS was delighted that he enthusiastically agreed.

The State Council bussed the National Lay-Vice Chairman of the Society to Hobart for its State Council Meeting on 1 May at which he presented the Bishop’s Licence to Jo.

The 1st of May is the Feast of St Phillip and St James, and Jo celebrated the Eucharist and preached an, as usual, wonderful sermon together with loaves of bread and a saw.
