Back to School Foundation
Birgit Albers (R) presenting certificate to Joan and Peter North from Riverlinks Parish.
One woman's vision
The Back to School Foundation was set up by Birgit Albers, a German-born Australian who lives for several months of the year in Malawi and was inspired to care for the many orphan children in that country.
Birgit returns to Tasmania in the winter and works as a nurse, saving her salary for the work in Malawi.
From small beginnings the Foundation now has several international sponsors, including Joan and Peter North from Riverlinks Parish. They are seen here with Birgit, receiving a certificate marking their four years of sponsorship for the work in Malawi.
Find out more on the websiteThe Tasmanian contact is Helen Wills from Riverlinks Parish.
