Vale Bishop Henry
Bishop Henry and Anglicare
Anglicare mourns the loss of Bishop Henry Jerrim. Bishop Jerrim was the motivating force behind the establishment of Anglicare in 1983. His vision was to provide innovative, world-class services to Tasmanians in need.
Bishop Jerrim was concerned for people who were disadvantaged in the Tasmanian community, especially those living on low incomes, and he fervently believed that the Church has a responsibility to them.
The formation of Anglicare was the culmination of great effort by Bishop Jerrim, who worked hard to find the resources for the services he could see the community needed. His tradition of social action and advocacy are still seen as key activities for Anglicare and were named in its original charter.
They continue to be important functions of the organisation today.
For several years now, Anglicare has been offering an annual Research Fellowship to an employee to undertake study that will ensure the organisation is at the forefront of innovative service delivery in Tasmania. This Fellowship is named in honour of Bishop Jerrim.
