Water in a dry land
Few people might know that the General Synod has a Drought/Climate Change sub-committee. The waters of The Murray system are high on its agenda, for The Murray-Darling Basin is important in so many of our dioceses across four states.
Few people may know that the rice-growing centres of the Dioceses of Riverina and the fruit-growing areas of Bendigo are suffering greatly as water is restricted for irrigation use.
Rapid decline in country towns has a profound effect on the emotional and financial well-being of its residents; it has an impact on the congregations of our churches. Pastoral care of people suffering such depressing and life-changing situations is essential.
