Tips for taking photos of people

Don't be embarrassed, don't be shy...

  1. Remember, a good photo will tell a story.
  2. Get close.
  3. Get closer.
  4. Zoom to get even closer!
  5. Take lots of photos.
  6. Take more photos.
  7. Take even more photos. One of them might be good!
  8. Use natural lighting when you can.
  9. If there is a bright background use your flash on 'fill'.

Tips for writing local news

You don't have to be Shakespeare, but...

  1. Write tight. (Omit unnecessary words.)
  2. Write short sentences.
  3. Use the active voice. (Say who did what.)
  4. Provide captions for photos.

And if that's too hard, just jot down a few dot points to go with your photos.

WANTED - LOCAL NEWS!

We want your news about Anglican events for the local news page.

We also welcome submissions to our bimonthly magazine. Most local news that is submitted will be published quickly. When it becomes old news it will be archived so you'll still be able to find it on this site. Although they are very welcome, fewer submissions are accepted for our printed magazine - because the number of printed pages is limited.

We welcome submissions from...

  1. parishes
  2. organisations
  3. youth groups
  4. individuals

What do I send?

Text and photos especially.

OK, so it's hard to write a few sentences. So start writing - even if it's just a few captions for the photos you send.

You can also send movies, if they're short and good. And audio, if it's an interview or speech or address or something funny.


How do I send it?

  • by email (if there aren't too many photos)
  • on a CD (if there are heaps of photos)
  • by FTP (if you know what that is then ask for details)

Who do I send it to?

For publication on the website within 48 hours, send to Peter Jerrim.

For the magazine (Tasmanian Anglican), print and web, send to Sheelagh Wegman.

If you want something on the website quickly and then to be submitted for the magazine then send it to Peter first and he will pass it on to Sheelagh.


What's the editorial policy?

  • It's highly likely your submission will be published. But that's not guaranteed. The editor's decision is final.
  • On this website, names of people under the age of 18 will not be published with their photographs.
